These 10 Body Language Tips Will Help You Impress Any Employer
These 10 Body Language Tips Will Help You Impress Any EmployerThese 10 Body Language Tips Will Help You Impress Any EmployerIn most social encounters, were being judged even before we open our mouth. Our body language has a significant impact on how we are perceived. If your words dont match what your body is saying, people are more likely to believe your body.Learning to speak body language may come in handy especially during job interviews where you might feellike youre tightrope walking. You want to seem confident without coming across as obnoxious, look smart but elend too bookish. Mastering the language of the body can help us find the balance.Incorporate ansicht 10 body language tips into the preparation for your next job interview. Of course, there are other things you should research in preparation for an interview, but it certainly helps if you know what your limbs are doing, but youll also be able to make a killer first impression on the interviewer1. HandshakeMaster the art of the perfect handshake. The overly aggressive shake- a.k.a. death grip- is as off-putting as the limp tentacle handshake. Ask your friend to assist you in a handshake practice session to help you find the balance. When offering your hand, turn your palm slightly up so that your interviewers hand can cover yours.Go for a firm handshake accompanied by a brief eye contact and smile. This will help you demonstrate confidence and create a bondwith your interviewer at the same time.Avoid covering the persons hand with the hand youre not shaking with. They could easily misinterpret it as a sign of domination.2. Personal spaceKeep in mind that personal space extends to about 20 inches. Encroaching on this space can make people feel uncomfortable and awkward. Aaand, thats it. Not much else to say here. When in doubt, keep your distance.3. Eye contactMaintaining good eye contact is an effective way to say youre trustworthy and engaged in the topic of your conversation. But you definitely sho uldnt end up staring persistently in the other persons eyes. Heres the trick Instead of direct eye contact, go for direct face contact. An easy way to make you look engaged is to look at different parts of someones face. In this way youll avoid an uncomfortable constant gaze into the interviewers eyes. Change the spot every two seconds. Rotate from eyes, to nose, to ears, to lips and back.4. Sitting styleKeep your back straight. Sitting up straight is seen as a sign of intelligence, composure and credibility. By displaying your neck, chest and stomach area you signal that youre open and honest. If nothing helps, imagine as if there was a string tied from the top of your head to the ceiling.Avoid slumping or reclining back into the chair as this can make you seem bored or disengaged. If you are granted a choice of seating, go for the straight-backed chair. Cushioned chairs and sofas may seem comfy, but they will hardly let you sit gracefully. Also, gestures like crossing your arms or pl acing a handbag on your lap might make you appear closed off. They talk defensiveness and for self-protection- not the ideal body language youd like to speak during a job interview.5. HandsGo ahead and let your hands move as you speak. Blocking natural gestures might lead to an awkward appearance. Just make sure not to get too excited. Exuberant gestures would distract the listener from your words. When working with your hands, keep them above the desk and below the collarbone. Ideally, shoot for the area fanning out 180 degrees from your navel. This will make you appear balanced, controlled and calm. Also, sitting about a foot away from the table will help to make your gestures clearly visible.Palms facing up are a sign of engagement and honesty that youll signal to the interviewer.Avoid clenching your fists or frantically waving your hands around to make a point. And never ever bite your nails or touch your face. This would make you look nervous and anxious. And if youre still unsur e what to do with your hands, guys over at Inc. put together a step-by-step guide that has you covered.6. SmileA genuine, honest smile is the best remedy to any embarrassing or awkward situation. Contagious laugh thaws ice and moves the mountains. Its worth investing in creating a positive environment during the interview.Last but not least Beware of the perils of the infamous RBF- resting bitch face- which your face might be incidentally manifesting. If smiling doesnt come naturally to you, there are Wiki guides out there for people like you. Check it out How to Smile.7. BreatheA great way to soothe job interview anxiety is to control your breath. Focus on breathing as it is a vital part of the conversation. To reduce your heart rate and stress hormone level before the interview, take 10 deep breaths. During the interview breathe in when youre being asked and breathe out when its your turn to speak. These pieces of advice will keep you full of fresh air and novel ideas at the same t ime.8. NodNodding shows your interest in the conversation and agreeability. If youre not one of those people who do this naturally, pay attention to opportunities to nod. Nodding too often will make you look like a woodpecker, but a proper dose of nods will make the interviewer feel understood and followed.9. WalkBe proud that youre an intelligent human being that has two feet to stand on. When walking, you shoulders should be pulled back and your neck elongated.Always remember to walk with purpose and energy. Your body language should be communicating confidence and calm.Dont hunch your shoulders or tuck your chin into your chest. These gestures would make you look timid or nervous.10. MirroringMirroring means aligning your bodys position to that of your interviewers. Sounds odd? Well, its definitely one of the best tools to signal admiration and agreement. Through mirroring you can quickly get on good terms with your interviewer. So make sure tomatch their posture and body languag e. Trying to mirror a persons tempo and demeanor also shows you can easily fit with the environment and work in tandem with your colleagues. Being flexible and adaptive are definitely great assets that many companies appreciate.Dont forget about these body language tips and good luckFollowing these 10 useful body language tips, your body will help you embody the ideals every candidate for a job wants to express.Focus on the message youd like to get across and make your body language be in sync with your mind.Above all, remember that being yourself pays off the most. At the end of the day its going to be you working for the company, not the image you seek to project. Present yourself in the best light possible, but stay true to your core values. Now its your turn to exude some confidence and power.Let your body do the talking and land your dream job in the interview of your lifeScored no interviews yet? Here are some things you might be doing wrong. And dont even think of giving up be fore you make sure your resume is ON POINT Try .Easy peasy.Share Your Feedback or Ideas in the Comments

4 Simple Ways To Revitalize Your Outdated Professional Network4 Simple Ways To Revitalize Your Outdated Professional NetworkUnless you work in outbound sales, keeping up with your network might be low on your to do list. Unfortunately, poor maintenance of business relationships often leads to a stale and outdated connections that are no longer working for you. While this is natural, its not good for your career. The value of your network and the value of your income or salary are closely related. Therefore, its in your best interest to stay connected to your network with fresh interactions. Not sure how to step forward with an outdated business contact? Here are four ideas you can use to break the ice Send a link You dont have to make a big deal out of every interaction or even make an original statement. Get back in hauch with a business contact seeking out a recent blog article or study related to their industry. Send it to them by email or through LinkedIn and tell them you though t of them. Then ask a follow-up question to get the ball rolling.Practice gratitudeTake 30 minutes each week and consider your work history. Try to think of different moments in your career in which someone helped you or said something insightful that lead you to a new opportunity. Write a handwritten note, email, or LinkedIn message to thank them for their contribution and let them know youre thinking of them. If the favor was particularly beneficial, you might even consider a thank-you gift.Make a connectionThe odds are low that youre the only person in your network feeling disconnected. Take initiative and make a connection between two people in your network who you think could benefit each other, or simply get along. Write a connecting email to both of them giving a short elevator pitch about each contact and a quick summary of why you think they might be able to help each other. Then follow up separately with each person to ask how the connection worked out. Use the golden rule The golden rule is to treat others as you would like to be treated. If youre nervous about reconnecting with your network because of how much time has passed, consider how you would feel if the situation was reversed, and an old contact reached out to you. Youd likely welcome the reconnection and feel flattered that they thought of you. When you arent actively seeking a new position or going out to networking events, its easy to fall out of touch with your network. Dont let that happen to you. Use these four steps to engage with your contacts and continuously invest in your relationships.

2016 Salary Trends in Seasonal Hiring
2016 Salary Trends in Seasonal Hiring2016 Salary Trends in Seasonal Hiring2016 Salary Trends in Seasonal Hiring ConlanSeasonal hiring used to simply mean adding a handful of sales associates at retail locations for the months of November and December, says Lauren Griffin, senior vice president at Adecco Staffing USA.But with evolving customer behaviors, businesses in some industries now hire thousands of additional workers to take on the holiday shopping season.Last year, the winter holiday season alone brought in $616 billion in retail sales at large chain stores a 4% increase over the previous year and employers of all sizes can expect a busy season in 2016, Griffin says.As a result, the competition for skilled talent that can deliver quality customer service will encourage employers to offer competitive wages, particularly as the job market continues to tighten, she adds. While it is difficult to identify rates at which wages are rising because of all the variables that go into h iring seasonal workers, companies should be aware that wage rates for seasonal workers are up this year compared with last year, says Katie Bardaro, vice president of analytics at PayScale.Low unemployment and higher consumer activity have been driving up wage rates, says Bardaro. For example, Amazon announced it would hire about 100,000 seasonal warehouse workers this holiday season. The factors that are driving higher salaries for seasonal positions in the coming months are interconnected.More Customers, More Customer ServiceA stronger economy means more people are buying, and as a result retail and delivery will need more employees to meet demand in several sectors. Increased consumer demand is driving employer demand for seasonal help across the retail industry, manufacturing, warehousing, call centers and other industries, Griffin says.Lower Unemployment and Seasonal HiringLower unemployment means people who were underemployed or unemployed have found jobs and arent looking for seasonal work to make money. There is so much demand for seasonal staff that businesses are in tight competition with one another to secure top talent. This is especially true for businesses in regions where the seasonal hiring pool is limited, Griffin says. This demand encourages employers to offer higher wages or incentives for seasonal workers to ensure they can handle the increase in activity around the holidays.Upward Seasonal Wage PressureA low unemployment rate has a greater effect on the lower-level salaries that many seasonal positions offer, says Bardaro. With the unemployment rate decreasing like it is, we expect that to put upward wage pressure on lower salaries, and that includes seasonal workers. In addition, a higher minimum wage in some areas may put an upward pressure on lower-level salaries as a whole.Griffin says a recent Adecco Staffing USA survey found that gaining additional cash was the main reason people would consider a seasonal job (76 percent). If the empl oyer isnt able to offer a higher starting wage, Adecco recommends using other incentives such as tuition assistance and flexible hours to recruit the top talent needed to compete.

Great Ideas on How Kids Can Easily Make MoneyGreat Ideas on How Kids Can Easily Make MoneyThe best way for kids to learn about money is for them to have to manage some. When kids have money in their pocket, so they have the chance to buy things that they want to participate in fun activities with their friends, they end up learning about budgeting, needs vs. wants and so much more As a parent, it can be frustrating that the only source of money is an allowance or doing chores around the house. It helps to have kids learn how to make money in ways other than from us. Here are a few ways to help kids earn their own spending money Bake Sale or Lemonade Stand Its a common idea for kids who want to make money, but a lemonade stand teaches kids basic lessons about entrepreneurship. Encourage the kids to make cookies, handglied foods, or drinks that can be sold on the street corner. The kids will learn how to put in the work to make a product that can be sold, and they will get a little spending money when the neighbors stop to buy a treat. Neighborhood Services Common neighborhood services might include babysitting, house cleaning, lawn mowing, or car washing services. Help your child improve their services by learning good techniques to get the job done right. Also, help them put together flyers and price lists so that they have easy marketing materials when talking with people in the area. Have a Garage Sale Many kids have too many toys, especially since they are always getting gifts on their birthday and during holidays. Plan a family garage sale, and let each child choose the items they would like to sell. Let them keep the money that is earned from selling their own items. A garage sale is beneficial to earn money, and you will also be able to de-clutter the house at the same time. Sell Holiday-Themed Items Look for cheap items that can be sold door-to-door for the holidays. Here are some examples Go to the mountains and pick mistletoe, and sell it during Christmas time.Make Valentines treats, such as chocolate truffles and heart-shaped cookies that can be sold as Valentines gifts.Sell hardboiled eggs and egg dye kits for families to enjoy the activity of dying Easter eggs without the hassle of all the preparation.Take orders a week before Thanksgiving, and offer a pie delivery service the morning of Thanksgiving. Gather Recycling Items Find a local regenerierung company and ask how much they pay per pound. Have the child gather recyclable goods, such as newspapers, soda cans, or glass bottles, and take them to the recycling plant. Sell Crafts and Home Dcor Teach the kids how to make crafts, such as homemade jewelry or decorative signs for the home. Plan a family activity to make these items, and sell them at a local craft fair or on a website like Etsy.com. You might consider having the child involved in purchasing the supplies for the crafts, so they understand the value that goes into producing a product to sell. It is a really great one for kids who are already naturally artistic, teaching them early they can make money off their talents. This can help your child avoid the starving artist story Offer Pet Care Services Many families travel during the summer, and they need pet care while they are gone. Offer pet care services to the neighbors, which teaches the child the responsibility that is needed to feed and care for the animals. You could even have them tack on plant watering for a bonus or a bit extra money There are plenty of ways for kids to make extra money that does not come out of your pocket.

We need gender neutral dress codes in the workplace. If you dont yet agree with that statement, look no farther than a 55-page presentation given to women executives at Ernst Young in a June 2018 training. pThe presentation, which made headlines last month when an offended participant a href=https//www.huffpost.com/entry/women-ernst-young-how-to-dress-act-around-men_n_5da721eee4b002e33e78606a target=_blankleaked it to the Huffington Post/a, reinforced gendered stereotypes of how women should dress and present themselves at work. Some highlights, which are actually lowlights in terms of equality in the workforce/pul class=ee-ul ee-ulliA list of appearance blunders for women to avoid, including no-nos like too-short skirts, plunging necklines, bottle blonde, flashy jewelry/liliOutfit and grooming suggestions to minimize distractions from your skills sic set like good haircut, manicured nails, and well-cut attire/liliAdvice on how to dress dont flaunt your bo dy sexuality scrambles the mind/li/ulpThe women, there to invest in their professional development, were not learning how to be better leaders or combat sexist stereotypes at work, but instead were being lectured to about what to wear and how to groom themselves./ppWhile the presentation wasnt the official EampY dress code, it does highlight bias and assumptions made around gender that women have to manage. And this particular training focused only on the male-female binary. Employees who identify as transgender or nonbinary might feel even more burdened by dress code policies based on gender. /ppImagine how much more productive all employees, regardless of gender, could be, if they werent focused on avoiding dress code policing./ppTraditional gender-based dress codes can also discriminate on the basis of race. Many grooming guidelines for women, including rules on acceptable haircuts, are extra burdens for black employees, particularly those who want to wear their hair in natural styles. a href=https//daily.jstor.org/how-natural-black-hair-at-work-became-a-civil-rights-issue/ target=_blankIn 2010, Chastity Jones got a job offer/a to be a customer service representative from Catastrophe Management Solutionsbut the offer was contingent on her cutting off her locs. When she refused, the company took back the job offer, and when she sued, with the help of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, she lost her case in 2013 and again in 2016, when her appeal was dismissed. /ppAnd beyond forcing women of color to maintain their hair in a way thats deemed acceptable, gender-based dress codes can also discriminate against people of certain religions. Employees whose faiths keep them from cutting their hair or necessitate that they wear certain clothing (including head coverings) shouldnt be forced to adapt their beliefs to what their employer deems professionally appropriate for a woman at work./ppThe possibility for gender-, race-, and faith-based discrimination posed by prescriptive employee dress codes has a href=https//www.hrc.org/resources/workplace-dress-codes-and-transgender-employees target=_blankled the Human Rights Campaign to recommend/a that if an employer has a dress code, it should modify it to avoid gender stereotypes and enforce it consistently. Requiring men to wear suits and women to wear skirts or dresses, while legal, is based on gender stereotypes. Alternatively, codes that require attire professionally appropriate to the office or unit in which an employee works are gender-neutral./ph3Okay, So Gender Neutral Dress Codes Sound Good. What Do They Look Like?/h3pIn their simplest (which, in my opinion, also means best) form, gender neutral dress codes at the workplace can take the form of General Motors dress policy. When now-CEO Mary Barra was VP of global human resources for the automotive giant, a href=https//qz.com/work/1242801/gms-dress-code-is-only-two-words/ target=_blankshe replaced their 10-page dress code with two words/a Dress appropriately. /ppIn the article linked above, the author explains why Barras dress code works so well She avoided assumptions, instead choosing to trust her employees judgment, which in turn empowered all employees and was particularly impactful for women. /ppFor workplaces that need more specificity about what employees can wear, HR should follow in the footsteps of other institutions that have successfully adopted gender-neutral dress codes. Namely, high schools./ppAfter a wave of protests, social media outrage, and thoughtful advocating, a href=https//www.dispatch.com/news/20180919/more-schools-revamping-sexist-dress-codes target=_blankseveral schools have revamped their dress codes/a, which tended to put undue burden on female students.
